Giri Coffee Works was founded in 1945 by Venkataramanna Shetty. What began as a modest coffee counter in Nazarbad — beside what is today Near Hotel Mylari — set out to do one thing well: serve honest, freshly roasted South Indian filter coffee to the people of Mysuru. No shortcuts, no imported gimmicks. Just good beans, roasted and ground with care, day after day.

Nazarbad has changed a great deal since then. The counter has not moved, and neither has the promise behind it.

Three generations, women-led today

The shop has stayed in the family through three generations. Recipes, roasting judgement and the feel for a good grind have been handed down at the counter itself — learned by watching, tasting and doing, rather than written in a book. Today the business is women-led, carrying the founder's standards forward while keeping the same welcome that regulars have known for decades.

That continuity is the whole point. When you buy from Giri Coffee Works, you are buying from the same family that has run this counter since 1945.

Chikkamagaluru coffee, roasted and ground in-house

Our coffee comes from Chikkamagaluru, the estate country of the Western Ghats where South Indian coffee has grown for generations. We roast and grind it in-house, in small runs, so the powder that reaches you tastes the way it should — fresh, aromatic and true to a South Indian filter.

The house blend has been refined slowly, over generations, to a balance that suits the traditional filter and the davara tumbler. You can choose your pack size, chicory ratio and grind; the character stays the same cup after cup.

Trust, built one cup at a time

Around 81 years of doing the same thing honestly earns a certain kind of trust — the kind that comes from regulars who have bought their coffee here their whole lives, and from families who now order our powder to be delivered across the country. In 2023, Giri Coffee Works took part in the World Coffee Conference held in Bengaluru — a proud outing for a small Nazarbad counter.

We keep it unpretentious on purpose. The coffee speaks first; everything else is just service.
